Emergency Room
It's been an impressive run: 5 years of dating, 8 years of marriage, a 5 year-old boy...zero trips to the emergency room.
Most of you know that right outside our front door is the parking lot for the local Greek Orthodox Church. Holly and Jude had gone bike riding and I was watching TV when the front door opens and Jude says, "Daddy! Mommy fell!" I ran outside to find Holly lying on her back in the parking lot. She had been going too fast and lost control. She fell on her right side and had knocked the wind out of her. Besides feeling a little "banged up", everything seemed fine. However, once we got inside the house, the pain set in. She complained that her ribs on her right side hurt, and her entire right arm was aching. Her forearm was the worst. She was having very sharp pain from the slightest movement. We decided that she needed to get to the hospital.
I put Jude to bed right as our friends Naaman and Amber Wood came over to help us out. They stayed at the house while I drove Holly to the emergency room. She was seen immediately, and had X-Rays taken for her chest and for every part of her right arm. Of course, that was the worst part. All of that moving and twisting around was excruciating for her.
After the X-Rays, she was put in an emergency room and the doctor came in to do a preliminary check. He felt her ribs, checked her collar bone, elbow, wrist and fingers. Ultimately, the pain was radiating from her forearm. He ordered her a shot for the pain and a tetanus booster.
Thankfully, all of the X-Rays came back clear. No breaks could be seen anywhere. It appears that the fall severely aggravated Holly's carpal tunnel nerve. Many of you know that she has had on and off trouble with that nerve in her right arm for the past several years. The doctor prescribed a painkiller, gave us some warning signs to look out for, and instructed Holly to let her regular doctor know about everything that had happened.
Please pray for Holly's comfort and for healing in her arm.
